        K.Bashyam (Arya) was born in1907 in Mannargudi taluk, Thanjavur district. He is one of Indian freedom fighter, actively participated in the freedom movement. He is a portrait painter and sculptor, having his pen name Arya. He painted poet Mahakavi Bharati on canvas in the year 1950. His statues of Gandhi and Satyamurthy and portraits of Gandhi and Bharati are one of his outstanding works.
