Bhikshatanamurti

     Uraiyur, Trichy District. About 15th Century AD.

     Standing holding a drum and trident in his two upper hands. In his lower hands he holds his begging bowl and a bit of grass at which the deer is shown jumping. He has his hair dressed in the jatamakuta fashion with stray jatas trailing behind. He wears the makarakundala in one ear and patrakundala in the other ear. There is a snake around his waist. The dwarfish Gana is shown carrying his begging bowl. He wears a pair of wooden sandals.

Durga

     Kidaramkondan, Mayavaram Taluk, Thanjavur District. About 15th Century AD.

     Standing in tribhanga posture on the head of a buffalo with six arms. The right arms carrying respectively the following attributes-abhaya, cakra and sword. The three left arms carry katyavalambita, sankha and shield respectively. All the usual ornaments are present. Navel is stressed. Nose is very sharp and speaks of Vijayanagar artistic tradition.

 

Vishnu

     Udumalpet Taluk, Coimbatore District. About 15th Century AD.

     The image of Vishnu shown as seated with the right leg hanging down from the seat, the foot resting on a pedestal and the left leg resting on the seat. Of the two hands holding conch and discus, the one holding the former is slightly damaged. The lower pair of arms are in abhaya and simhakarna attitude. Kiritamakuta, patrakundalas, yajnopavita and waistband with simhamukha, armlets, wristlets and padasara are among the ornaments.
