Celebrations of International Museum day in the Government Museum - Chennai on
18-5-2005.

On the occasion of the International Museum Day on May 18th 2005, the Government Museum and Prakriti Foundation, Chennai jointly organised a Workshop for Children in the age of 10-12 and Special lecture on " wooden carvings on the Chariots " will be delivered by Dr. Raju Kalidoss, Professor and Head of the Sculpture Department, Tamil University, Thanjavur on the same day. The Workshop for Children - Know your Museum was conducted at the Children's Museum, Government Museum, Egmore , Chennai 8 on 18th May 2005 between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. There were a tour of the Galleries, brain games, story telling and mapping. There are 46 children's from the various Schools in the city participated in the workshop. Children were divided into groups and taken on tour to the museum galleries where they had to draw the objects and to identify the exhibits and report back and explain about the objects. The Valedictory function was held in the evening at 4.00 p.m. The group of Children's explained about the objects where they had sketched. Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Director of Museums, gave away the Certificates and prizes to all the Children's.

The Government Museum and Prakriti Foundation, Chennai jointly organized a Special lecture delivered by Dr. Raju Kalidoss, Head of the Sculpture Department,

Tamil University, Thanjavur, on "Wooden Carvings on the Chariots " to commemorate the International Museum Day, on 18th May 2005. Dr. Kalidoss spoke in detail on various iconographic, structural and statistical features.


"The Chemical Conservation Section and Research Laboratory" , Government Museum, Chennai is conducting the 31th Refresher Course on Care of Museum objects from 1st to 30th June 2005. Those who are interested may download the application and send it to the Government Museum, Chennai as mentioned in the Prospectus - Director of Museums.


The Education Section of the Government Museum, Chennai jointly organised the Philately Workshop for School Students in collaboration with South India Philately Association, Chennai on 24th January 2005 at 10.30. a.m. in the centenary Exhibition hall Government Museum, Chennai. Thiru G. Balakrishna Das, President, South India Philately Association, Chennai presided over the function. Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Director of Museums, Government Museum, Chennai inaugurated the Philately Workshop.

Children’s Day Celebrations

The Government Museum, Chennai celebrated Children’s Day - 2004. On this occasion for the different age group down from L.K.G to +2 Students of Chennai city, Oratorical competition on 4th and 5th and Art competition on 6th November 2004 were conducted at the Government Museum, Chennai. The valedictory function was held on 24-11-2004. Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Director of Museums; Thiru T. K.Ramachandran, I.A.S., Projector Director, Sarva Siksha Abhyan, Chennai presided over and distributed the Prizes to the Winners of the competitions. Dr. Sarojini Varadappan, President, Indian Red Cross Society, Tamilnadu Chapter has distributed Certificates to the Students.
