    A large dwarfish yaksha seated with large patra kundalas yajnopavita (sacred thread) and with a crown over his head.

 

Mahishasuramardini

     Kaverippakkam, North Arcot District. About 7th Century AD.

     Mahishasuramardini seated with right leg on seat and left leg hanging down. There is only one pair of arms. The right arm holds a sula. There is the buffalo's head shown on the pedestal. Very much weather beaten. But speaks of Pallava workmanship.

      Locality unknown. Probably from Kanchipuram region. About 7th Century AD.

      Image of Vishnu seated on a pedestal with left leg kept on the seat and the right leg resting over the ground. In two of his four hands he holds conch and discus which are close to the face. On the other pair of hands lower left is resting on his left leg, while the fourth one must, which have been in abhaya (protection) fashion, is broken. The drapery, the ribbon like sacred thread with a broad fastening over the left breast and the kirita (crown) are of Pallava style.
