Mahishasuramardini

     Tripurantakam, Kurnool District. Andhra Pradesh. About 13th Century AD.

      Mahishasuramardini standing with eight hands killing the demon mahishasura. Her vehicle, the lion is shown beside her. In her eight hands she carries trident, discus, sword, conch, noose, shield and bow. She is seen pulling an arrow from the quiver with one of her hands. The face is somewhat rubbed off as also the headgear. The wristlets, armlets and waistband are all well worked out. A remarkable carving.

     Locality unknown. About 13th Century AD.

     Image of Kubera, god of wealth. The fat short god is seen seated properly decked with jewels, holding in his left hand a conch which is the symbol of sankhanidhi. There is an ornamental background shaped in circular designs of creepers surmounted by a simhamukha at the top.

 

 

Vishnu as Kesava

     Locality unknown. About 13th Century AD.

     Vishnu standing with conch and discus in his upper hands. The other two hands are broken.He is attended on either side by Sridevi and Bhudevi. The workmanship of the sculpture is good and is in the Hoysala style. There is a prabha surmounted by a simhamukha.
